Cheap Cat Food

Keeping a cat as pet implies a lot of responsibilities that cat owners willingly take on. A cat is not just a toy, it is a being that needs care and attention and definitely appropriate food to grow healthy. I am not going to write against cheap cat food of any kind, but I think you should know a couple of things that cheap cat food may do to your cat especially in its early months of life.

What exactly is cheap cat food? It is the kind of food, mostly dry, that does not contain the necessary quantity of nutrients for a cat and of course a less expensive diet alternative. Cheap cat food is not completely void of proteins and other ingredients that healthy food should contain, but the percentage of nourishing material is low.

If a kitten is fed on cheap cat food in its early life, the consequences may be tragic. A baby cat's diet must be very carefully devised. Their stomach is sensitive and certain ingredients that cheap cat food contains may harm its digestion and pave the way to further problems when the cat grows up. Yeast, soy and other substances added to cheap cat food will not ensure a healthy life for a kitten.

What we should look for is food that contains a high percentage of protein, vitamins, minerals and fatty acids which will take care of the bones, muscular mass, skin, fur and teeth. It may cost a bit more to feed your cat on all that but it is well worth it. Cheap cat food does not only lack the vital ingredients for your cat's life; it also contains artificial additives and colorants that are not to be ingested by baby cats.

If a cat is properly fed, it will feel and look healthy at the same time: shiny coat, healthy skin, good teeth, vigorous appearance and, above all, a strong desire to play. Cats are survivors but you simply can't neglect your cat and let it take care of itself. If you have several cats round your house, buying cheap cat food to add to the more expensive canned wet food they eat is ok; but don't ever substitute good nourishing meat-based food for cheap cat food! A cat needs at least one consistent meal a day and that can only be ensured by a nice portion of pre-packed meat and gravy or whatever the cat prefers.

However strange it may seem, some cats show high tolerance to cheap cat food; no allergies, no lack of appetite and no digestion problems at all. That is a good thing; if your pet is among the lucky ones you should consider yourself lucky too. However, do not forget to vary the cat's meals and regularly provide the indispensable ingredients in some way. Alternate cheap cat food and top-notch products if you want to have a happy and vigorous cat; it will purr every time you draw near and will be ready to play with you and your kids any time.
